Our purpose

Rooted in tradition.
Open to discovery.

We promote the study and understanding of naturopathy and natural approaches to wellbeing in Greece, connecting our Hippocratic cultural heritage with education and research.

We create space for knowledge exchange, practical learning and collaboration. People, and the support of physical and emotional wellbeing, are at the heart of our purpose.

Our goals

  • Support the development and diversity of naturopathy in Greece.
  • Advocate appropriate professional recognition and regulation in Europe and internationally.
  • Promote high educational standards and accreditation processes for naturopathy in Greece.
  • Encourage research, critical study and the exchange of scientific knowledge.
  • Develop and maintain a knowledge database covering organizations, regulation, accreditation, conferences and research activities.
  • Seek collaboration with international organizations, national governments and supranational bodies to support responsible professional development.
Knowledge matters most when it becomes a shared resource.
Our philosophy

High standards of learning.
The person at the centre.

We aim to support high-quality studies in naturopathy, drawing on international educational standards from colleges and universities, the World Health Organization’s (WHO) training benchmarks and the World Naturopathic Federation’s (WNF) educational guidance.

We seek a responsible contribution from naturopathy to health and wellbeing, with respect for safety, evidence and collaboration with medical care.

Our guiding principles

The naturopathic tradition draws on holism — understanding the person as a whole — and vitalism, the traditional concept of the body’s vital and restorative capacity. These philosophical foundations inform seven principles.

  1. First, do no harm. Put patient safety and benefit first. Primum non nocere.
  2. The healing power of nature. Support natural restorative processes. Vis medicatrix naturae.
  3. Address underlying causes. Explore factors contributing to a health concern. Tolle causam.
  4. Care for the whole person. Consider physical health, emotional wellbeing and life circumstances. Tolle totum.
  5. The practitioner as teacher. Inform and empower people to make considered choices. Docere.
  6. Health promotion and prevention. Encourage habits that support health.
  7. Wellness and wellbeing. Support overall wellbeing and quality of life.

Understanding naturopathy

Philosophy, care and education

Theoretical approaches

Naturopathy includes historical and contemporary models such as humoral theory, the therapeutic order, emunctories (elimination pathways) and complex systems theory. They form part of its tradition and educational discussion, with critical evaluation of their evidence.

Individualized care

Internationally, naturopathy combines approaches such as nutrition, herbal medicine, lifestyle counselling, hydrotherapy and physical methods; some traditions also include homeopathy. Their use depends on evidence, training and local law. Additional clinical procedures require specific training and the relevant professional authorization.

Quality starts with education

We support high educational standards, clinical competence, safety and continuing professional development. Appropriate training underpins professional formation and helps inform responsible regulation.

The WNF Educational Program Guide (2022) describes two international models: a 2,500-hour naturopathic practitioner program and a 4,000+ hour naturopathic doctor program. These are international educational references, rather than a statement of programs, accreditation or professional rights provided by the Centre in Greece.
